Rail Yard Inventory and Management Systems


1.1 Yard Inventory Systems: The system is designed to update on-site railcar inventory. Operator uses a mobile application in handheld terminal (HHT) to select a railroad track and scan each car on that track to obtain car id. For each car, operator will select appropriate data based on provided selection list. The HHT will store data on its internal drive and upload data to server when a network connection is detected. The Car numbers and its relative positions on each track are updated to SAP and railcar inventory database. Provide built-in validation to check if data from HHT is properly uploaded to server. Send email notification if server has not received updated data from HHT.

1.2 Railcar Inspection: The system is designed to inspect all railcars before they are arrived at the loading station. Operator uses a mobile application in handheld terminal (HHT) to select a loading station, scan the car id, and does bottom inspection. If inspection passes, the car proceeds to loading station. If the inspection fails, car is masked for repair. After inspection is completed, rail crew will select a function on HHT to send the list of car numbers and its inspection data to SAP and database.

Handheld Terminal (HHT)

The handheld terminal offers advanced data capture options and integrated wireless WAN/LAN/PAN, delivering true cost-effective anywhere anytime voice and data connectivity for route salespeople, field repair personnel, and workers on the manufacturing, warehouse, retail floor, or rail yard. It is a rugged handheld mobile computer with built-in bar code scanners, radio frequency identification (RFID) scanner, and wireless network communication. The RFID scanner allows HHT to scan railcar’s RFID tags. The wireless network communication will connect handhelds to remote network for data update.
